The Effects of Group Game Play on Young Children¡¯s Self-Regulation and Adaptive Behaviors in Kindergarten

Abstract
This study sought to verify whether young children¡¯s self-regulation and adaptive behaviors in kindergarten could be improved through group game play. The subjects of the study consisted of five-year-old kindergarteners in D Metropolitan City. Pre- and post-tests for this study were conducted using a self-regulation assessment and a scale of adaptive behaviors in kindergarten. In addition, ANCOVA was carried out using the SPSS 19.0 program in order to statistically prove the effect of the program. The research findings and conclusions were as follows: First, both the experimental group which had participated in group game play and the comparison group which had engaged instead in physical activity play showed improvement in terms of their self-regulation. Second, both the experimental group and the comparison group showed improvement in adaptive behaviors in kindergarten.
